Be careful, scammers are again impersonating mBank

Again, cybercriminals pretending to be mBank aim to steal clients’ sensitive data as well as their money. The bank tells you what we should pay attention to.

Fraudsters target mBank and its clients

There is probably not a week that we do not hear of some new form of cyberattack. Internet fraud has become an unpleasant everyday life, so we need to be more and more vigilant and cautious online. Fraudsters use the most popular websites such as OLX, instant messaging (WhatsApp), applications or banks. They can perfectly imitate official websites, so that it would be difficult to identify a fraud at first glance.

Now mBank informs about false payment sites, eg PayU, DotPay or banking sites in an official announcement. As you can see in the screenshots above, the scammers want to extort a PESEL number, mother’s maiden name or even a PIN for a mobile application. This is a really brazen attempt to cheat, but there can always be someone who falls for it. These types of redirects to fake payment pages may come from links sent to e.g. OLX during a purchase or sale transaction.

The given data will be sent to cybercriminals and will be used by them to steal our money or carry out further extortions. The bank therefore warns that under no circumstances should such sensitive data be disclosed. He also points out to watch out for callers who encourage them to provide them under the pretext of, for example, “verification of a fake transaction, blocked account, special Police / CBA action or assistance in investing in cryptocurrencies.”
