Chew is a revolutionary drinking straw

Interesting inventions usually arise when everyday objects are put under the microscope. One of them is something as prosaic as a straw, which we use without much thought… which the environment itself experiences afterwards. However, a start-up from Singapore found a solution for this Chew.

Let’s start with the fact that in the United States alone, straws become one of the most burdensome waste. Hence the idea for Chew, a reusable straw that can accompany you for the rest of your life, although you probably will not find many people who will constantly carry their “little fancy set” at hand. It may be useful in an apartment, but the regulars of cinemas, bars or fast food outlets are unlikely to wear it every time they go out. However, the 537 donors, who collected $ 20,637 out of the required $ 14,568 in the Kickstarter campaign, think differently.

Chew is distinguished from other reusable straws by two elements. While the aluminum “base” is common, it is difficult to find a silicone mouthpiece that provides not only comfort, but also high strength, while being easy to process. What about after the drink is finished? Then a peculiar case for two tubes comes into play, with small holes at the bottom through which we get rid of the rest of the liquid. For this, the attached “ring” is useful, which is simply used to spin the whole set on the finger, generating centrifugal force.

Chew is on sale with one straw, four mouthpieces, a ramrod and an instruction manual for $ 35. If you are wondering who is going to buy it, we may soon be forced to do so because the European Parliament could push through a law banning disposable straws.
