Galaxy presents Geforce GTX 980 HOF with chalk white circuit board

The graphics card manufacturer Galaxy, which in Europe was previously known as KFA2, is now called Galax. Following the launch of the new brand, a slew of new graphics cards in the Geforce GTX 900 series are presented, some more lavish than others. One of these is a new addition to the enthusiast-oriented series Hall of Fame Edition.

GALAX Hall of Fame edition cards are born from top quality components and exemplary innovation to achieve one sole objective—to break records.

On the agenda is the Galax Geforce GTX 980 HOF with something as unusual as a white circuit board. Although this is not the first time someone has offered chalk-white components, the experience from previous ventures has discouraged manufacturers because the circuit boards have a tendency to become nicotingula after a period of use.

However, that is not the only highlight. Galax spices up the model with a really large cooler containing three fans and no less than seven heat pipes in combination, while the back of the circuit board is adorned with a silver-colored sheet of aluminum.

At the center is the GM204 circuit with 2,048 CUDA cores, 256-bit memory bus and 4 GB of memory. The graphics processor is overclocked from the standard frequencies 1 126/1 216 MHz to 1 304/1 418 MHz (base / boost) while the memory frequency is left untouched on 7.0 GHz GDDR5.

However, Galaxy promises greater turning space than that and provides, among other things, a “new generation” digital power supply with 8 + 2 phases and the IR3555 circuit, which will open up for record-high clock frequencies. Preliminary overclocking results, according to the manufacturer, are above 1.5 Ghz with air cooling and 2.1 GHz with liquid nitrogen.

More details are 10-layer circuit boards (308 mm), dual and interchangeable firmware, software to increase the voltage above Nvidia’s limit values and power supply via two 8-pin PCI Express connectors. The graphics card is connected via PCI Express 3.0 x16 and provides outputs for DVI, HDMI 1.4 and three Displayport 1.2a.

The Galaxy Geforce GTX 980 HOF will be available at retailers shortly, but some price information is not yet known.
