Gazprom is looking for solutions to resume the operation of Nord Stream

UN, 30 Sep – PRIME. Gazprom is looking for possible solutions to restore the Nord Stream system, Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov said via video link at a UN Security Council meeting.

Gazprom confirms uninterrupted supplies to Hungary via Turkish Stream

“Now we have begun to look for possible solutions to restore the Nord Stream system. The timing of such work, the timing of restoring the system’s performance cannot be estimated at the moment,” Kupriyanov said.

“We can definitely say that this is a very difficult technical task,” he added.

According to him, the first steps are a physical examination of the damage sites. “In general, the situation with the breaks that occurred on the same day simultaneously on three strings of offshore gas pipelines is absolutely unprecedented. In fact, Europe is deprived of one of the key routes for obtaining the most important energy resource for an indefinite period,” he concluded.

At the time of the rupture of Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2, there were about 800 million cubic meters of gas in the three lines, Kupriyanov also said.

“According to available estimates, there were about 800 million cubic meters of gas in the three lines of gas pipelines at the time of the incident. For comparison, this is Denmark’s consumption for three months,” Kupriyanov said.

Last Monday, terrorist attacks took place simultaneously on two Russian gas export pipelines to Europe. Germany, Denmark and Sweden do not rule out targeted sabotage. The Russian side officially requested information from Denmark about the emergency at Nord Stream as soon as the incident became known. The Danish authorities notified the Russian Federation about the explosions at the site of the gas leak. The Nord Stream operator Nord Stream AG reported that the state of emergency on gas pipelines was unprecedented and it was impossible to estimate the timing of repairs.

The work of Nord Stream has been suspended since the end of August due to problems with the repair of Siemens turbines caused by Western sanctions. However, the pipeline remained filled with gas. Nord Stream 2, completed in 2021 but never put into operation, has also already been filled with gas.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation initiated the initiation of a case on an act of international terrorism after the damage to the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
