Google Arts & Culture is an application developed by the Mountain View giant to spread the passion for culture and art all over the world. With the latest update, the called functionality was introduced Art Transfer which allows you to edit your photos until they become artist paintings.
The explanation comes directly from the company's blog, where this novelty was announced. Art Transfer is in Google Arts & Culture in the section dedicated to the camera and, through a simple interface, guides the user to edit their photos (both taken at the moment and taken from the gallery).
Art Transfert: AI at the service of art and users
Once the photo has been selected (currently only in 1: 1 / square format) it will be possible to apply Art Transfer or to a section of the image or to the whole photograph. Many styles that the user can choose: we find Vincent van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Claude Monet and many others!
While the transformation changes the photograph, in full spirit Google Arts & Culture some information on the artist's style and why he painted in one way rather than another is provided.
Obviously there is also a technological background. The application Google Arts & Culture takes advantage of artificial intelligence and an ad hoc algorithm to correctly apply style to images and understanding how to make photographs special. It is not just a matter of merging images or overlapping, but something more complex.
No data is sent on cloud or on the Net, Google always points out, but everything is processed thanks to the potential of the device.
