Homemade spirulina, i.e. breeding health-promoting algae from Bloom

Indiegogo has just conquered the work of the Canopi startup, which currently costs 149 British pounds, or over PLN 800, will provide you with the opportunity to grow algae on your own. It is home-made spirulina grown using the Bloom system, which requires special contributions at a price of about PLN 32 per piece.

Thanks to the Canopi Bloom System, homemade spirulina is at everyone’s fingertips

Spirulina is an alternative name for a specific species of cyanobacteria, i.e. algae, which are an injection of, among others proteins, vitamins and magnesium. Thanks to its properties, it provides antioxidant properties, strengthens immunity and reduces cholesterol. Usually, however, these algae are available in powdered form, but thanks to the Bloom system, we can access them in the most natural way possible, simply ensuring their home cultivation.

Fresh spirulina is said to be much more nutritious than its dried and powdered counterpart. At least this is what the UK-based Canopi company claims, emphasizing that fresh algae do not have the characteristic “marshy” taste to which spirulina enthusiasts have become accustomed to its powdered form.

The system consists of two dishwasher-safe polypropylene “capsules” which are docked in a powered base. Water is poured into them, live spirulina cultures are placed and nutrient tablets are applied to allow algae to grow in these tanks. It also keeps the water at an optimal pH level, while the base itself provides the right level of light and temperature throughout the growth cycle.

Thanks to this, home spirulina should be ready for harvest after just five days. The Bloom system itself will tell you about it, informing the user that the density of the algae in the water has reached a sufficient level. Then, the filtration process allows you to extract from the tank one 5-gram portion, some of which should be kept for future breeding.
