If not Android and iOS then what? Maybe PinePhone PRO with Linux?

When buying a new smartphone, we are faced with a choice – Android or iOS. however, PinePhone PRO gives us another alternative – Linux. But is it worth being interested in? Yes and no.

PinePhone PRO with Linux is not a smartphone for everyone

PinePhone PRO visually does not stand out from other smartphones. offers us a 6-inch LCD screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. In addition, a 5 Mpix selfie camera and a 13-megapixel main camera and a 3000 mAh battery that supports fast charging. Not very encouraging at the moment. The smartphone will be driven by a 6-core Rockchip RK3399S supported by 4 GB with dual-channel function and 128 GB of built-in memory, expandable with a microSD card up to 2 TB.

Of these additional things, we have USB-C, WiFi, Bluetooh, LTE and GSM on board, but the most important thing is that PinePhone PRO runs under Linux. It comes with Manjaro Linux, but the user will be able to choose another one, because as many as 20 operating systems are beta-testing.

This smartphone is not aimed at the “average Kowalski”, but at programmers and testers of mobile software. We will not find banking applications, popular games or applications that we most often use on Android, although launching some of them is possible thanks to programs such as Waydroid. PinePhone PRO is open to Linux systems, it allows you to connect a mouse, keyboard or monitor. Of course, we will send SMSes from it, we can make calls, use the network or applications.
