In Russia, they created a technology for controlling drones using gestures

MOSCOW, 21 Oct – PRIME. Russian scientists have developed a technology for controlling special equipment using gestures, in the future the solution can be used to navigate drones, RIA Novosti was told in the press service of the National Technology Initiative (NTI).

Japan has developed a nuclear power plant reactor based on the lessons of Fukushima

“Russian engineers have developed a technology for controlling special equipment, robotic platforms and mechanisms using gestures. A solution based on processing a video stream by a neural network can be used in the future to control various unmanned vehicles … The solution, created mainly from Russian components, is ready for serial production,” – the message says.

It is clarified that at present the technology is already being used to control rovers. According to the developers, the technology will be in demand in construction and logistics, for example, in warehouses, for more convenient work of specialists.

According to the CEO of Droneshub, which developed the system, Maxim Tomskikh, the rover analyzes the video stream from the onboard camera, recognizes the given gesture commands, including the start of the control system is initiated by a “welcome gesture.”

“Next, you can show the rover what is required of it: “follow me”, “turn”, “forward”, “backward”, “turn on the headlights” and other commands. The solution can be integrated into other machines, utility and special equipment: bulldozers , loaders, tractors, as well as unmanned vehicles,” Tomskikh said.

The developers note that technically the solution can recognize several hundred variants of complex gestures, including those with two hands. In addition, in the near future it is planned to add voice commands to gestures.
