However, we are again dealing with the 8th generation of processors, but with many improvements. I am talking about a 1 Gb Wi-Fi module and higher clocks, which are directly related to the core performance. Their architecture has not changed, though that hasn’t stopped Intel from boasting about being safe from the Specter and Meltdown exploits. The security measures against them are only software, not physical. The whole thing is complemented by lower battery consumption compared to the previous series of processors.
Processors such as i7-8565U, i5-8265U, i3-8145U and i7-8500Y, i5-8200Y and m3-8100Y are available. The first three are designed for efficient mobile devices, and the latter for those focused on the greatest possible battery life. Despite the usual refreshment, the most efficient models from both the U and Y series are still impressive. i7-8565U on its 4 cores with activated Hyper Threading shoots up to 4.6 GHz … and at 15W TDP! On the i7-8500Y side we have a maximum of 4.2 GHz, but with a TDP of 5 W.
We will have to wait a few days or even weeks for their first implementations in notebooks and ultrabooks.
