Intel Xeon E-2100, a new processor for small workstations

Yesterday, Intel announced the premiere of the Intel Xeon E-2100 processor, another chip as part of a relatively new series of Xeon E server solutions.

The company stated that there was an idea (money) behind the Xeon E-2100 processor:

With today’s requirements, aging workstations negatively affect productivity, collaboration and creativity. The release of the Intel Xeon E processor is intended to provide the necessary performance and visuals for budget workstations, and to optimize the innovative forms, designs and diverse requirements of our customers, said Jennifer Huffstetler, vice president and general manager, Data Center Product Management, Intel Corporation.

In general, therefore, the Intel Xeon E-2100 is intended rather for non-advanced sets with a focus on single-threaded tasks. According to the company, it’s optimized for reliability and affordable. However, it is supposed to offer opportunities that are not very spectacular nowadays. I am talking about 6 cores and 12 threads, the clocks of which can reach even 4.7 GHz, support for 64 GB of DDR4 memory with ECC instructions, Intel UHD 630 graphics chip with HEVC codec, support for USB 3.1. Intel Optane and Thunderbolt, 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes and an advanced security system.

According to Intel, it is 1.36 times more efficient than the 2017 Xeon E3-1200 v6. Its price has not been given.
