Lenovo laptop with Chinese processor. Kaitian N7 reached for the Zhaoxin CPU

A few years ago, well-known laptop manufacturers on the market had a choice of either an AMD or Intel processor. Recently, works based on the Arm architecture have been added to this mix, but as Kaitian N7 proves, i.e. a Lenovo laptop with a Chinese processor, it is a matter of time until the architecture loses a bit to competing solutions.

Kaitian N7, is a unique laptop from Lenovo with a Chinese processor, using a quad-core processor from Zhaoxin

The Lenovo Kaitian N7 laptop is clearly an experiment for the company. It uses not only the unusual Chinese KaiXian KX-6600MA4 processor based on the LuJiaZui microarchitecture made in TSMC 16 nm technology, but also developed by Lenovo SoC, supporting system-specific functions like light detection, lid opening, fast charging, power bank mode or control saving energy. Apparently, SoC also relieves the processor from some tasks set by the operating system.

This SoC may be crucial, because the Zhaoxin quad-core processor is definitely not a technological masterpiece, looking at the company’s chip tests and the 16-nm technological process itself. This definitely affected work on a single charge, because the 61-Wh battery provides only work up to 6 hours. Lenovo clearly wanted to create the Kaitian N7 model based on technology available only in China.

The rest of the Kaitian N7 specification includes a 14-inch 2.2K display, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5 support, a fingerprint reader, 16GB DDR4 memory, and a 512GB NVMe SSD. Regarding the capabilities and therefore the performance of this 1.29 kg notebook with a thickness of 14.6 mm, unfortunately we have nothing to say.
