Low-profile mechanical switches from Cherry

During the last day of CES in Las Vegas, a well-known manufacturer of peripheral devices announced MX Low Profile RGB, i.e. new, low-profile switches for mechanical keyboards.

These will be the first low-profile switches in the offer of German Cherry. MX Low Profile RGB is 6.6 mm lower than the full-fledged Cherry MX solution (18,5 mm). Its height is only 11.9 mm while maintaining the transparency of the structure, which is required for effective illumination. At the moment, there is only a version with linear operation (Red), but there will also be a Blue variant soon. The manufacturer ensures that it can withstand up to 50 million clicks, the activation level of which is 1.2 millimeters, and the full working range – 3.2 mm. Due to this, the recovery time to the starting position will be slightly shorter. In addition, their resistance to dust and moisture has been improved.

Admittedly MX Low Profile RGB They do not constitute any innovation, because, for example, the Tensoro company also offers low-profile mechanical switches, but the entry of the German Cherry into this segment will certainly be a much more popular choice. This product will be used mainly in laptops where it is difficult to find mechanical keyboards. Among people who have had the opportunity to try them out, there is an opinion that the only noticeable difference is the path taken by the key.
