Mainstream Toyota Camry and Avalon with racing details

Consumer cars have been gaining something from their racing brothers for many years, but no one expected Toyota Racing Development to work on the newest Toyota Camry and Avalon.

Surprisingly, until now Toyota has reserved the entry “TRD” for cars intended for the track and not the public roads. Now it turns out that Toyota will be tossing its technologies and systems from its “racing department” into whatever model deserves it. We can be sure that the presence of TRD in the name is not limited only to the branding itself, but to real changes. So what will Camry TRD and Avalon TRD offer? The earlier versions of XSE and SE already received more sporty elements, so Toyota cannot come down to only minor changes.

The upcoming models will therefore feature reduced ground clearance, improved aerodynamics (thanks to a new front splitter, side skirts, deck cover spoiler and diffuser in the background), red brake calipers and discs, and tuned light alloy dampers. This is followed by full-fledged tests at Toyota facilities in Arizona, Japan and Texas. The changes could not bypass the engine itself. The 3.5-liter, six-cylinder 301 HP unit received a double cat-back exhaust and an updated automatic transmission.

There are also visual changes behind the TRD brand. Hence the characteristic elements of the interior (including red stripes) and the occurrence of Supersonic Red, Windchill Pearl and Celestial Silver Metallic in two-color colors and a uniform Midnight Black Metallic. Camry TRD and Avalon TRD premiere alone? Before the end of mid-2019, although their variants will not enter the market until 2020.
