Maze hackers have infected the infrastructure of Hammersmith Medicines Research in the UK with ransomware. Cyber security firm Emsisoft said that following the attack, the coronavirus research database conducted by the company was published online. These included sensitive data about medical test volunteers, such as identity documents such as passports, medical documents and test details.
ComputerWeekly reports that Hammersmith Medicines Research has been able to make the systems functional by the end of the day. The company had a well-established back-up system, so that its activity was not significantly affected.
Currently, data previously published on the hackers website is no longer available, but it may already have been downloaded.
