Sony will return the line of compact smartphones Xperia Compact

The Japanese company Sony previously released three flagship smartphones within one generation. A smaller Compact version and a Premium version with a 4K ULTRA HD display joined the Standard Edition. A few years ago, the Compact series was closed, but the Tokyo giant intends to bring it back to life. True, she will go to the budget segment.

Network informant onLeaks has published high-quality renders of the upcoming Xperia Compact. The exact commercial name of the smartphone is still unknown. The smartphone will receive a 5.5-inch HD + display with wide bezels and a teardrop notch for the front camera

On the back panel we can see the dual main camera in vertical orientation, and on the right side – the volume control key, a separate button for activating the camera and a fingerprint scanner combined with the power key. Also note the USB-C port at the bottom and the headphone jack on the top.

The heart of the Sony Xperia Compact will be a modest single-chip system Qualcomm Snapdragon 480. The model will be on sale with a pre-installed Android 10 operating system. More information about the technical characteristics of the upcoming novelty is not yet available. The price is also not specified. The presentation is expected at the end of this winter. Often the company shows its new products at the Mobile World Congress, but MWC 2021 was postponed to the summer due to the pandemic.

Recall that the last smartphone in the Xperia Compact family was announced in February 2018 at the Mobile World Congress. It’s called the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact. You can see it in three different colors in the photo below.

The compact flagship is equipped with a 5-inch Full HD + panel and a 10-nanometer Snapdragon 845 mobile processor with a frequency of up to 2.7 GHz. A three-year-old model is equipped with a 19-megapixel main camera, a 5-megapixel front camera, stereo speakers and a 2870 mAh battery. The fingerprint scanner is located on the back. We also note the protection against water and dust according to the IP68 standard, NFC and the Android 10 operating system (Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box). The Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact was priced at about $ 700.
