Musk announced massive layoffs of Twitter employees

In the near future, the microblogging service may be acquired by entrepreneur Elon Musk for $44 billion. According to the publication, he has already informed potential investors in the deal that he intends to lay off 75% of the company’s 7.5 thousand employees.

Massive cuts are expected even if Musk’s deal with Twitter falls through. According to corporate documents, the company’s current management planned to cut the payroll by about $800 million by the end of 2023, which means the departure of almost a quarter of employees. The company also plans to make significant cuts to its infrastructure, including data centers.

Data scientist Edwin Chen said Musk’s proposed cuts are “unimaginable” and would put Twitter users at risk of being hacked and accessing offensive material such as child pornography.
