On February 9, a fisherman found a bizarre, oblong piece of metal in the form of two interconnected cylinders on an Indonesian beach. Instead of immediately informing the relevant services about it, he kept it to himself and only the flashing red light, which suddenly “came to life”, forced him to intervene. As it turned out, a mysterious object on an Indonesian beach is nothing so dangerous, and he already had his five minutes in the local media.
Although the ‘mystery object’ in the photo above may seem like a torpedo or anti-ship missile, it is actually a so-called SRD. In theory, he’s not dangerous, but the way a soldier holds him (close to his waist) could have ended up, if not fatal, for him severely.
The mentioned SRD stands for Streamer Retriever Device, and the object visible in the photo is the SRD-500S by Geospace Technologies (via @DaveGOwen). It places this type of device on a pulled sensor cable used for testing, among others, seismic, which he can easily recover with the use of SRD, when the cable breaks off the tow vessel.

Hence the warnings about compressed CO2, which, if remotely activated, would raise the cable to the surface. Hence the shameful approach of a soldier who, in the event of a failure of this SRD, could take a significant blow to, among others internal organs.
