The Indonesian Navy wants a fast fleet for devastating strikes. She is interested in rocket boats with NSM missiles

On February 9, a conference was held between the head of the Indonesian Navy and representatives of the local shipbuilding company PT Lundin, the Norwegian defense company Kongsberg and the local engineering company PT Datarek Integrasia. There, words were said that the Indonesian Navy wanted a high-speed fleet for devastating strikes, which was to be provided by NSM missile boats.

Indonesian Navy May Reach NSM Missile Boats To Better Defend Its Archipelago

The meeting focused on three main topics. These included the modernization of the new trimaran (KRI Golok) and the acquisition of high-speed missile boats and the procurement of NSM missiles for them. According to the information provided by the local media, a lot was crashed by missiles, which, according to Kongsberg, fit perfectly into the needs of the Indonesian navy, which, after all, operates in an archipelago landscape.

NSM (Naval Strike Missile) missiles are able to significantly increase the capabilities of the navy thanks to, inter alia, maximum range up to 250 km and subsonic speeds. However, this is not the end of the list, because the missiles also boast the use of inertial navigation, GPS location, infrared guidance and terrain response systems.

Combined with the appropriate platforms, the NSM missiles can significantly increase the combat potential of the Indonesian Navy. Especially that they are to hit the mentioned in the title fast, 33-ton rocket boats, accelerating to 102 km / h, which would surprise the enemy and lead unexpected and lightning attacks on the enemy fleet. These boats, which Indonesia wants to purchase in a circulation of around 120, would be assigned to a large vessel or would operate autonomously.

You must know that the NSM are fifth generation anti-ship missiles that achieved initial operational capability on the new Norwegian Fridtjof Nansen class frigates and Norwegian Skjold class corvettes in 2012. Kongsberg is responsible for its production, thanks to which it won the OTH WS (Navy Over-The-Horizon Weapon System) competition in 2018.
