New NVIDIA graphics cards tested. They can be weaker than AMD’s iGPUs

A few days ago we saw the premiere of the GeForce RTX 2050 and MX570 with a GPU based on the Ampere architecture and the MX550 with a Turing-based GPU. We didn’t wait too long for tests to be leaked on the network, pointing to these new NVIDIA graphics cards, and unfortunately we don’t have good news about them.

New NVIDIA graphics cards for laptops are the same GTX 1660 in 2021. The most important? They will support DLSS and Ray-Tracing

The entire trio of these cards is expected to debut on laptops in the spring of 2022 and although the specification directly indicates that we should not count on much, we definitely did not expect such a level. NVIDIA, moreover, did not disappoint with the naming (yes, it’s sarcasm) and introduced confusion to its offer once again, combining models from the apparently same series with the GPU based on different architectures.

According to their performance information published on Zhihu, preliminary tests of these three graphics cards suggest similar performance (around 3369 points) of the RTX 2050 and MX570 models with GA107 with 2048 CUDA cores and NVIDIA RTX support. Although the memory difference (4 vs 2 GB GDDR) does its job, it apparently does not play any role in Time Spy.

In turn, the GeForce MX550 scored 2510 points, and the whole trio against the background of the mobile GeForce RTX 3050 and its result of 4800 points is still poor. Especially that, according to leaks, the upcoming APU from AMD (Ryzen 6000 Rembrandt), thanks to the iGPU’s base on the RDNA2 architecture, will squeeze as much as 2700 points in Time Spy. However, chances are that such a low score on NVIDIA’s mobile cards is due to their early version.
