New SSDs from Kingston. This is FURY Renegade on PCIe 4.0

Kingston has just announced the launch of its new FURY Renegade SSDs for PCIe 4.0, which is of course the M.2 connector. These are definitely models in the high-performance segment, and their prices and availability will be a test of the future.

The premiere of the new Kingston FURY Renegade SSDs

Kingston FURY Renegade drives are available in 500 GB and 1, 2 and … 4 TB capacities. Don’t worry though – the 4 TB capacity was still achieved using NAND TLC chips, not QLC, which is confirmed by the TBW index limiting the 5-year warranty, amounting to 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 TB of recording for each model. However, be prepared for the fact that the 2 and 4 TB versions will have a laminate packed on both sides, which is confirmed by the difference in thickness (2.21 vs 3.5 mm).

Each of the capacitive variants uses a Phison E18 controller, four PCIe 4.0 lanes and is additionally cooled with a thin heatsink with the addition of graphene. Thanks to their small size, Kingston FURY Renegade SSDs will be perfect even for PlayStation 5 consoles, but such modest cooling portends problems with temperatures under load.

On the performance side, the two most powerful versions perform best, offering both one million IOPS and 7300 MB / s read and 7000 MB / s sequential write. The 500-GB variant is much weaker in this respect, guaranteeing “only” 3900 MB / s sequential write while maintaining the same read level. However, on the IOPS side, you can count on reading up to 450,000 / 900,000 units.
