Scandinavian airline Norwegian Air announced that very soon customers from Norway will be able to buy plane tickets for bitcoins. It will also run its own cryptocurrency exchange.
The Norwegian Block Exchange (NBX) will start its work in August in Norway, and a little later, customers from nearby countries will have access to it. The Norwegian Air loyalty program is also integrated into the stock exchange – users will be able to receive special points for trading on the stock exchange and use them to get discounts on airline tickets.
“Users will be able to receive points for trading on the site and for using the NBX payment solution to purchase air tickets,” said Stig A. Kjos-Mathisen, who will become the head of the NBX exchange.
Note that Norwegian Air operates an air fleet of 195 vessels, which cover more than 500 routes around the world. The decision to use the cryptocurrency was made by the new CEO, the son of the company’s founder Lars Ola Kjos, who stores Bitcoins for more than $ 400,000.
This spring, it was reported that JR East, Japan’s largest railway company, will provide customers with the opportunity to pay for tickets using cryptocurrencies.
