Nvidia begins 2022 with extra graphics memory for three graphics cards

The Geforce RTX 3000 series and “Ampere” for consumers have been on the market for over a year, but the imbalance between supply and demand is still very noticeable. Despite limited access to circuits and other components, Nvidia has not backed down to expand the RTX 3000 series with new graphics cards. Now unofficial information indicates that it is time again in two months.

This summer, Nvidia released the two upgraded cards Geforce RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti, which in addition to more CUDA cores will come with changes on the memory side. The RTX 3070 Ti variant remains with 8 GB of memory, but is upgraded to GDDR6X type, while the big brother increases from 10 to 12 GB of GDDR6X memory. Rumor has it on several occasions painted information that Nvidia cards with more memory are brooding in the shadows, and it is precisely such upgrades that are reportedly on the doorstep.

It is Twitter user @ hongxing2020 which follows up on its own post published in early October. Then the Geforce RTX 3070 Ti with 16 GB of memory was mentioned, the RTX 3080 with 12 GB of memory and the old RTX 2060 upgraded to 12 GB. The upgrades mean that the former graphics card gets a doubled amount of memory and in that case the second most in the “Ampere” family for desktops, while the RTX 3080 rises to the same level as the Ti sibling. 12 GB of graphics memory with the RTX 2060 is also a duplication to the original version.

According to the Twitter user, December 17 is a date to add to the calendar – the date for the unveiling of the two “Ampere” -based products. They will appear in stores on January 11, but already on December 7, the Geforce RTX 2060 will be unveiled and available for sale. Whether any of this will become a reality remains to be seen, but it is clear that the extra memory of the aging RTX 2060 fills a gap in the price and performance steps, which “Ampere” does not extend to at present. Extra memory on other cards raises the lance in the duel against AMD’s Radeon RX 6000.

Is the slightly cautious amount of memory of the Geforce RTX 3080 or RTX 3070 Ti something that makes you opt out of the models?
