Nvidia is working on the Geforce RTX 3060 Ultra

The first phase of products in Nvidia’s graphics card series Geforce RTX 3000 looked complete with Lenovo’s leak regarding RTX 3050 and 3050 Ti. All model numbers then appeared to be available in a standard variant and a higher-performance Ti model in the near future, with the exception of the RTX 3090. RTX 3070 Ti is on the way and 3080 Ti is expected to be announced by Nvidia during CES.

Despite this long line of products, the company has apparently found a gap where the competitor AMD with the upcoming Radeon RX 6700 card can snag market shares, at the recommended price of 449 USD. The recommended price for the RTX 3060 Ti is 399 USD, while the RTX 3070 costs 499 USD – and in this gap, Wccftech now believes that the company will introduce another model.

The graphics card in question is named Geforce RTX 3060 Ultra and is equipped with 12 GB of GDDR6 type memory. In terms of performance, the card is expected to give 3060 Ti a match as the recommended price tag is $ 50 higher, although the exact configuration of the card is still highly unclear. The memory amount of 12 GB indicates that the memory bus is 192 bits wide – a configuration that has become relevant for the Geforce RTX 3060.

The first image with the modelname RTX 3060 Ultra comes from Asus – and Wccftech reports that cards in the ROG Strix and TUF Gaming series are on the way. Details worth mentioning are that Ultra in the model name has been styled in a similar way as the previous generation Super card, which raises further questions regarding the positioning.

Possibly, Nvidia could conceivably stopover on cards like the RTX 3060 with the suffix Ultra before one refresh on the “Ampere” series with short-named Super – unless the Ultra marking completely replaces the Super starting the Geforce RTX 3060 series. Clarity is expected to be brought during Nvidia’s event Game On on January 12.
