Nvidia prepares GeForce MX450 against AMD and Intel

Green Team’s MX400 series graphics cards this year.

Nvidia is reportedly preparing a Turing-based successor to its entry-level GeForce MX300 series of Pascal-based graphics cards to catch up with AMD and Intel.

The information comes from the 3DMark database, discovered by healthy rumor supplier @_rogame, which suggests that the MX GPU that will eventually equip entry-level laptops will be based on the TU117 architecture, equipped with 2GB GDDR6 video memory with 10Gbps bandwidth, and base frequencies 540 MHz with a TDP of 25 watts.

The tweet, which says nothing more about the upcoming MX350 sequel, includes a screenshot of graphics card performance data in 3DMark, where “Generic VGA” is paired with a Comet Lake Core i7-10510U processor.

Earlier rumors from Notebookcheck claim that Nvidia’s upcoming GPU, referred to internally as the “N18S-G5”, is coming out to counter the Intel XE DG1 iGPU that will be included in upcoming Tiger Lake-U processors directly from the manufacturer, along with 7nm integrated graphics chips Vega.

The same report states that the so-called N18S-G5, which may come out as the MX 400 series, will be available in two “A” and “B” variants. The leak confirms that both graphics chips will be based on the Turing TU117 architecture and built on a 12nm technology node, and that each processor will be able to provide PCI Gen4 speeds, will receive 64-bit GDDR6 video memory and a consumption of 25W.

The difference between them lies in the size of the package, according to the guys from Notebookcheck, the N18S-G5-B kit in a 29 x 29 mm case, and the N 18S-G5-A1 23 x 23 mm.

According to the report, Option A could be configured to offer either 3.5 GHz GDDR5 VRAM or 6 GHz GGDR6, while Model B is limited to only 5 GHz GDDR6 option. While the clock speed of the GPU core and the number of CUDA cores are not yet known, the report says that the performance of the integrated graphics cards will be identical to the GTX 1650 (Max-Q).

The N18S-G5-A variant is expected to go into mass production in May, followed by the N18S-G5-B on GDDR6 in early June. Both GPUs are expected to hit Intel Tiger Lake laptops due in the second half of 2020.
