Nvidia teases a grand event on August 31st

The ‘Ultimate Countdown’ teaser hints that Ampere is coming sooner than expected.

Nvidia has kicked off its promotional campaign for what could be the GeForce RTX 3080, kicking off the countdown with a hint of an official launch on August 31st.

On Twitter, Nvidia posted an 8-second teaser that appears to show a star going supernova. And while it says little to nothing, the profile banner on the @NvidiaGeForce Twitter account says “21 days, 21 years”, practically confirming that the next generation of GeForce graphics cards will be out in just three weeks.

And while this information differs from previous speculation that suggested an announcement at the end of September, the August 31st release is the same day that Nvidia released the GeForce 256, the company’s first graphics processor released 21 years ago, in 1999.

In August, Nvidia will launch a pre-emptive strike against rival AMD as Team Red is expected to release its first Big Navi GPUs in early September.

Early leaks showed that Nvidia could take over in the performance department, benchmarks show that AMD’s RDNA 2 based GPUs can struggle with Team Green’s GeForce 3000 graphics cards.

However, it is not yet known which manufacturer will enter the market first. Although the company plans to release in August, according to rumors, the first RTX 3000 graphics cards will only begin shipping next month.

According to reports, Nvidia will release three new graphics cards in September, including the flagship RTX 3080 and RTX 3080 Ti models, followed by another graphics card in October, and we will get two more cards later.
