Premiera AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX i 2920X

AMD has officially announced that the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX and 2920X will launch on October 29. Both processors will be compatible with motherboards with the X399 chipset and will offer not only more cores, but also higher clock speeds compared to the competition… and at a very affordable price.

Following the launch of the mighty Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX chip and by far the most interesting in terms of price-performance ratio, the Ryzen Threadripper 2950X, the red team once again showed that they are taking over the HEDT market. So now AMD is getting ready to throw both the weakest and more powerful model from the second-generation Threadripper processor series into the depths of the market. I am talking about the 24-core Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX for $ 1299 and the 12-core Ryzen Threadripper 2920X, for which the manufacturer wants $ 649. However, I will not bore you with the detailed specification of both systems (you can find it here) and I will focus on the Threadripper 2920X.

This one presents a really interesting move on the AMD side, which may be somewhat surprising. The 2920X is the successor to the 1920X with the same core configuration… but improved via a lower process (12nm +) and an improved Zen + architecture. Hence, higher clocks while maintaining the same 180-watt TDP. As a rule, it should therefore be more expensive, and at best the same price as its predecessor. However, it was confirmed that it will be a whole $ 100 cheaper, which in today’s market is almost unthinkable. Do you remember a situation in which, for example, Intel lowered the prices of the new generation chips to the older ones?

Even more efficient working mode

At the end, I left a novelty that will debut in the Ryzen Master software with the premiere of two new systems, on October 29. Dynamic Local Mode reserved for “WX” chips is designed to allow applications to automatically gain access to local memory on multiple cores. Apparently, this increases gaming performance by 47% … which of course should be taken with a pinch of salt. In bechmarks … maybe, but are they in games that effectively use a maximum of 4 cores? Well, over time, users will certainly verify it.
