Radeon R9 290X with Battlefield 4 specifications, price and delivery date

Anyone who unleashes in Battlefield 4 Exclusive Beta has probably noticed that the game requires a lot of power under the hood, which was not least demonstrated in SweClocker’s performance test. Now AMD wants to attract upgrade-hungry gamers by “bundling” the upcoming flagship Radeon R9 290X with Battlefield 4.

The Swedish retailers Inet and Webhallen are adding AMD’s new game packages to the range. Both set a preliminary price of SEK 7,299 including VAT, while Webhallen supplements with the also preliminary delivery date of 11 October. The latter also offers Battlefield 4 Premium on the purchase.

At the same time, Webhallen reveals the graphics card’s specifications. The Radeon R9 290X consists of 2,816 stream processors, 512-bit memory bus and 4 GB of GDDR5 memory. The clock frequencies are 800-1,000 MHz for the graphics processor while the memory spins at 5.0 GHz, which together with the huge bus width gives a total bandwidth of as much as 320 gigabytes per second.

The Hawaii graphics processor contains six billion transistors and measures 424 mm2. It can be compared to the monster circuit Nvidia GK110 in Geforce GTX Titan of 7.1 billion transistors and 551 mm2. Despite this, the Radeon R9 290X should be able to deliver over 5.0 TFLOPS (SP), compared to 4.5 TFLOPS for the Geforce GTX Titan.

Otherwise, power supply via 6 + 8-pin PCI Express, connection to PCI Express 3.0 x16 and support for DirectX 11.2, OpenGL 4.3, AMD True Audio and Mantle is noticeable. It is not yet known when the standalone Radeon R9 290X will go on sale, but these will probably appear just in time for the launch of Battlefield 4 on November 1.
