Ryzen 7 4700G appears in photos, debut around the corner for the new APU?

In recent weeks there have been several rumors about futures Desktop APU of the Ryzen 4000 range, but now we have the so-called "smoking gun", that is one photos of the Ryzen 7 4700G, solution that should rely on 8 cores and 16 threads (3.6 / 4.4 GHz), an unprecedented configuration for AMD desktop APUs.

Similar to previous generations, the Ryzen 4000 APUs are also based on the most recent mobile range (codenamed Renoir) and consequently on a project that provides Zen 2 core and Vega integrated graphics. Ryzen 4000 CPUs without integrated graphics (Vermeer) will instead adopt the new Zen 3 architecture, as well as an improved production process, an evolution of 7 nanometers.

Desktop APUs have a TDP up to 65W, higher than the 45W of the mobile APU, so they are able to operate at higher frequencies. Inside them, the Vega GPU, optimized thanks to the 7 nanometer production process and other devices, has fewer Compute Units than the 3000 models (8 CU instead of 11) but thanks to the higher clock frequency (rumors up to 2.1 GHz on the 4700G) is able to offer superior performance.

In recent days some details have also leaked on the frequencies and on the rest of the Ryzen 4000 APU range, which will probably also count Ryzen 3 solutions with 4 cores and 8 threads and Ryzen 5 with 6 cores and 12 threads. Videocardz, which released the shot, says it is a "final version and it shouldn't be long before you see Renoir AM4 in stores", which opens the door to two eventualities: the first is that the APUs will arrive on the market before the desktop Zen 3 CPUs, the second is that the Zen 3 processors will come out (together with the APUs) sooner than we think. We will see.

The new APUs could represent a strong competitor for the 10th generation cores with Intel's integrated GPU, with the Ryzen 7 4700G potentially capable of facing the Core i7-10700 in terms of computing power and ensuring greater performance on the front. graphics.

It remains to be seen whether these Ryzen 4000 APUs will be installable on the B450 and X470 motherboards, as they are based on Zen 2 architecture such as the Ryzen 3000. Technically there should be no impediment in this regard, but AMD has not yet expressed itself; however, it should be stressed that the company spoke of incompatibility with current motherboards only with regard to Zen 3 models without integrated GPU.
