Samsung’s latest patent shows us what frameless smartphones could look like in the future. It consists of two different visions of their implementation.
The first shows the holes inside the screen to make video calls more realistic. The second shows the antenna under the screen so that the devices are much thinner. This patent also covers such abstract things as a holographic projector that creates 3D images floating above the screen. The hologram will certainly not find its way to smartphones anytime soon, if it is ever introduced to them.
The patent was published on October 24, 2018 and is quite detailed. This suggests that devices of this design could at least exist in the form of a prototype. I wonder if these assumptions will be confirmed in the future.
