Seagate FireCuda SSD and BarraCuda Fast SSD, up to 2 TB for gaming

Seagate is a manufacturer that has always based its full potential on storage devices. However, it has cost them (and is costing) enough to enter an industry where not adapting means dying, and adapting today implies manufacturing solid-state devices. Although Seagate's strong point is still traditional hard drives, it's finally starting to launch SSDs to the market, even if they are in external format with USB connection (although they have M.2 NVMe SSDs already on the market).

We are going to see these two families and what they have to offer us.

FireCuda Gaming SSD, with USB-C and RGB

These SSDs come in two formats, one small "pocket" and one larger, with the size of a traditional 2.5-inch hard drive. In both cases they have a USB 3.2 Gen2x2 interface and, thanks to the use of FireCuda NVMe 510 SSD technology, they provide theoretical speeds of up to 2000 MB / s via USB

They are optimized to offer the best gaming performance – with this Seagate is telling us that we can use them on a PC as an external disk on which to install the games – and they are offered in capacities of 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB, with a housing two-piece metal and customizable RGB lighting on the "grid" between them.

BarraCuda Fast SSD, small, fast and economical

If the previous one had a pocket format version, these Fast SSD Bar They are even smaller. They come in capacities of 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB the same as the FireCuda Gaming SSD family, but in this case they make use of a SATA controller and their theoretical speeds are of up to 540 MB / s both reading and writing, and according to the manufacturer in this case they are designed for laptop users who want to be able to play without problems by installing the games in an external SSD instead of the few internal SSDs that laptops usually have.

In this case, the SSD comes in a one-piece housing with a status indicator LED light bar, and its connectivity is USB 3.1 Gen2 with USB-C connector. For some reason, although in theory this SSD is intended for gaming, Seagate gives a two-month subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan 2 with the purchase of one of these devices.

Price and availability

The new FireCuda Gaming SSD will be available from March at a recommended price of $ 189.99 for the 500 GB version, $ 259.99 for the 1 TB version and $ 499.99 for the 2 TB capacity variant.

For its part, the BarraCuda Fast SSD will be available from February at prices of $ 94.99 for the 500 GB unit, $ 169.99 for the 1 TB unit and, finally, we can see the 2 TB unit for $ 299.99.
