Three years ago, Silverstone showed an external graphics solution based on the Thunderbolt connection, but Intel’s reluctance to certify such solutions and Microsoft’s hesitation to provide proper support in its software put the product on hold. Both parts have been changed and Silverstone is thus dusting off the prototype.
Externally it is the same chassis design as three years ago and internally there is again a SFX power supply of 450 W – more than enough for all graphics cards with a single graphics circuit. Changes have instead taken place on the inside, where Gigabyte stands for electronics instead of Asus.
For the cooling of the inside, Silverstone has made sure that all hot air is blown out at the top. On the right side panel there are punched holes where the power supply draws in air, which is then blown upwards. Below this is a 120 mm fan that draws in air directly on the graphics card, which is mounted “up and down” and thus also inflates all air.
Gigabyte will sell the external graphics solution under the name GP-T3GFX. The price is expected to land at 350 dollars, corresponding to approximately 3,600 kronor including VAT, but this may change closer to launch.
