The electric Rivian R1T pickup impresses with its range and acceleration

The automotive beginnings of startups dreaming of introducing their electric car project often have their foundations in luxury Tesla models. Not quite fresh on the market, however, Rivian, which unveiled its new electric R1T pickup at a recent event in Los Angeles, which will soon be joined by the R1S SUV.

And what is so spectacular about R1T that we noticed it at all? Well, quite a lot, because (firstly) it is a pickup truck, and secondly … well, it’s a fully electrified pickup. Their three cents have also added to him the opportunities that he can boast, and there are a lot of them. We are talking about a huge battery with a capacity of 180 kWh, which is enough to travel up to 643 kilometers on a single charge. However, there are disadvantages with this range, because the 135 kWh battery variant will be the fastest R1T, accelerating to a hundred in just 3 seconds. The capacitive versions will therefore be harnessed to the same performance, which for the most powerful one translates into a power of 700 horsepower and as much as 1120 Newton meters of torque. The fastest one is to have 745 hp with the same torque, while the least efficient version, only 105 kWh, is estimated at 402 hp and 560 nm. However, all variants are limited to a maximum speed of 200 km / h.

The R1T with its electric motor simply could not afford the shortcomings in the autonomous hinterland. So it will be equipped with a third level autonomy, which in certain situations will take the helm and will take care of acceleration and braking itself. The motor itself is located next to each wheel, providing drive for all four, of course. The whole thing is completed by a pneumatic suspension capable of lifting the truck to such an extent that it will be able to drive through water 1 meter deep. So the prices are sky-high, but not as killer as we could have expected. They start at $ 69,000, which anyone willing will be able to spend at the end of 2020, when Rivian starts its deliveries.
