According to him, the biggest problem with the supply is still tormented by systems manufactured in the “over 10 nm” technology, and nothing indicates an imminent improvement in the overall situation.

The TrendForce report reveals what the delivery issue is doing in early 2021

Despite the announced investments and increased production, the market of semiconductor systems, electronic components and components for cars, smartphones, laptops and screens (and the components themselves… components) is still plagued by problems with deliveries. In the first quarter of this year, it should be more or less the same as in the fourth quarter of 2021, but the end of the holiday period and the return to normalcy in the labor market will ease the direct pressure on manufacturers and supply chains.

Going into details, on the professional market, because the server market, the increased demand for equipment caused by the world’s greater dependence on the network, began to arouse more and more uncertainty. Even despite the fact that, according to estimates, server deliveries will show a seasonal decline of approx. 8% compared to the previous quarter. However, stocks melt from week to week, and order times are extended.

In the case of smartphones, the biggest problem will be those with support for 4G networks and OLED screens. It is estimated that in 1Q22 their production efficiency will drop by approximately 13% compared to the previous quarter. Interestingly, in the field of PCs and laptops, material shortages have been partially mitigated in recent months, which has resulted in increased deliveries.

The biggest problems are the SSD controller on PCIe 3.0, but the market was slightly shaken by new hardware related to Intel’s 12th-generation Core, which caused a temporary shortage and an extension of orders to 8-12 weeks. The situation is stabilizing, however, as the restrictions in the supply of type C, WiFi and PMIC integrated circuits are gradually disappearing.
