The new Challenger 3 tanks will also receive new turrets. Production has already started

We learned a year ago that Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land had won a special £ 800m contract to upgrade the current Challenger 2 tanks. This is such a far-reaching overhaul plan that the name will be changed to the next iteration. Today we learned that the tower that will be finally reached by the Challenger 3 tanks is already under construction.

This turret will be given to Challenger 3 tanks, i.e. the “new”, because thoroughly modernized “twos”

The contract, worth over PLN 4.2 billion, aims to upgrade 148 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tanks from the British Army Cold War period to a new, better and more advanced specification Challenger 3. These upgraded tanks are scheduled to enter service in 2027 and, according to initial announcements, will receive the latest 120mm L55A1 smoothbore main gun.

This one will fire anti-tank missiles using kinetic energy, as well as programmable multi-functional missiles. We already knew that this cannon would be in a new turret, providing better protection for the crew while providing better automatic target acquisition and acquisition. It was this tower that began to be produced on Pearson Engineering’s production lines.
