The new Google Chrome will consume less RAM

Almost everyone who used the Goole Chrome browser sooner or later faced the problem of consuming a large amount of RAM. It often occurs when many tabs are opened in the browser and is very inconvenient for owners of weak computers. But it seems that the joint efforts of the specialists of Microsoft and Google still managed to solve this problem.

As you know, in the latest update for Windows 10, Microsoft has integrated a new Segment Heap heap control mechanism into the operating system, which can significantly reduce the level of RAM consumption for different applications. In turn, the developers of Google did not take long to wait and released a test release of Chrome Canary 85.0.4182.0 with support for the new function, promising to optimize it before the release of the stable version.

We also tested this feature in the proprietary Microsoft Edge browser. Based on the results of the browser, it was found that MS Edge reduced RAM consumption by almost 30%. However, experts clarified that these data can be considered approximate, since the maximum level of RAM consumption may depend on the resource intensity of individual websites and the number of installed add-ons in the browser.

A stable release of Goole Chrome with Segment Heap support is expected to arrive very soon. In addition, the innovation will be available in another popular browser, Mozilla Firefox. According to various sources, the new function will only work on 64-bit operating systems. It is not yet known whether an optimized engine will appear for 32-bit Windows.
