The newest tracked vehicles of the US Army will get new covers, i.e. the AMPV from OCWS

US Army soldiers will have the opportunity to evaluate and put into practice the new armored turret system for the Multipurpose Armored Vehicle as part of the Priority Next Generation Combat Vehicle Modernization Program. We are talking about equipping the AMPV, i.e. the newest tracked vehicles of the US Army, with the OCWS system.

To date, OCWS’s AMPV has passed reliability, availability and maintainability tests at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona. He also passed the live fire tests at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Marylan, which is why further AMPV operational tests with soldiers are currently underway. This process of implementing the OCWS on AMPV vehicles is not a coincidence, because in fact it is a new, comprehensive weapon station for the commander, which is compatible with any variant of the AMPV currently being produced in low-volume production.

The OCWS system responds to the continuing need to develop advanced armor protection for soldiers, and therefore is in fact part of the extensive modernization efforts of the US Army. This advanced protection kit consists of a new armor alloy and a titanium hatch structure, protecting the commander. Therefore, the OCWS includes a combination of opaque and transparent armor that is specially configured to provide advanced protection and situational awareness for the commander.

Currently, the Armaments Center works closely with the DEVCOM Military Research Laboratory to ensure the lowest possible weight, affordable price and easy availability of high-performance armor materials.
