Portable SSDs are gaining more and more popularity. They are fast, lightweight and portable. Extreme Portable SSD is a representative of this type of device. How will it be in the tests?

Appearance

The drive was packed in a small box. Together with it, we receive an instruction, a USB Type-C cable and a traditional USB adapter. Thanks to this, the disk can be connected to any device. The warranty is 3 years.

The drive measures 8.85 x 49.55 x 96.20 mm and weighs 38.9 g. It is therefore a very small and light structure. It looks good and is made largely of rubber. Thanks to this, it is possible to resist falls from a height of 2 m or vibrations. The disc has a hole that can be used to attach a lanyard or easy to carry. Extreme Portable SSD is certified IP55, which means it is resistant to water and dust. It connects to the computer via a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C connector, but thanks to an adapter it can also be connected to a regular USB. The manufacturer declares read speed up to 550 MB / s, nothing is mentioned about the write. Extreme Portable SSD works at temperatures from 0 ° C to 45 ° C and is compatible with Windows and Mac OS.

Along with the disk, we receive SanDisk SecureAccess software, which allows you to lock the disk with a password. Thanks to this, we are sure that the data from it will never end up in the wrong hands.

The results are very good. some even exceed the declared 550 MB / s, so it is excellent. The disk also performed well in real tests. Large files can be copied in seconds, and so are bundles of photos. Only in the latter case is it much slower – as is always the case with disks. However, the results are better than traditional portable drives – and so much better.

SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 500 GB costs about PLN 630. I believe that at this price it is worth paying attention to it. The disk is small and light, so there is no problem with carrying it. It has included software that allows you to protect it with a password. The drive performed very well in the tests and the transfer of files takes seconds. In my opinion, this is one of the better portable SSD designs.
