The Ukrainian “Energoatom” announced the connection of the second power unit of ZNPP

MOSCOW, 27 Aug – PRIME. The Energoatom company, which is the operator of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, said that the second power unit of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant was connected to the power grid.

On Friday morning, Energoatom reported that all power units of the Zaporizhzhya NPP were disconnected from the power grid, power supply is provided only through the line from the power system of Ukraine. In the afternoon, the company said that one of the power units was again connected to the grid. In turn, the head of the administration of Energodar said that, as the Ukrainian side stated, there was no complete shutdown of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, there was an emergency situation that was prevented by automation.

“Today, August 26, at 9:15 pm, the second of the power units that stopped working yesterday was connected to the power grid,” Energoatom said in a statement.

The head of the administration of the Zaporozhye region, Yevhen Balitsky, reported earlier this week that as a result of a strike by the armed forces of Ukraine on power lines in the area of ​​the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the territory of the security zone of the 750 kV overhead line caught fire. The fire caused a short circuit on power lines. The relay emergency protection of ZNPP worked, two power units were turned off, after which the Zaporozhye region was left without power supply. Immediately after the fire was extinguished, one unit was put into operation.

On the left bank of the Dnieper, near the city of Energodar, Zaporozhye region, there is the Zaporozhye NPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity. Since March, it has been under the protection of the Russian military. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized the justification for such a step in terms of preventing leaks of nuclear and radioactive materials. At the same time, the Ukrainian military continues to shell Energodar and the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant adjacent to the city.
