The US Army has ordered a new THAAD battery from Lockheed Martin

THAAD is the only American system designed to capture targets outside and inside the atmosphere. This one uses Hit-to-Kill technology, which destroys the threat of direct impact by neutralizing deadly charges before they reach the protected objects on the ground. This one has worked well enough so far that the US Army has ordered another new THAAD battery from Lockheed Martin.

THAAD continues to gradually improve the capabilities of the weapon system in order to continuously improve the ability to counter current and emerging threats. It has recently done so as part of the successful PAC-3 MSE test, reaffirming that THAAD is a highly effective and battle-proven defense against short, medium and intermediate-range ballistic missile threats that will only get better.

Not surprisingly, Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $ 74 million contract to produce another THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) weapon system for the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA). This amount relates to the production of the eighth THAAD battery for the US government, which will be put into service by 2025.

This award shows the continued trust of the US government in the THAAD weapons system and its unique endo- and exo-atmospheric defense capabilities. With 16 of the 16 successful flight mock interceptions and recent combat successes that clearly document the effectiveness of THAAD, the addition of an eighth battery will further increase readiness to combat existing and evolving ballistic threats
