This is Atom Touch, the world’s first such advanced hand prosthesis

The creators behind Atom Touch, the employees of Atom Libs, are aware of the limitations of today’s prostheses and the problems that even the most advanced models have to deal with. They solved this with the design of their own Atom Touch bionic arm, and it just so happens to be the world’s first such advanced hand prosthesis.

According to the CEO of Atom Limbs, the current forms of prostheses are far from perfect, and above all much worse than Atom Touch. Many users are not useful at all by limiting to 10 pre-programmed movements, for many they cause pain, do not provide feeling and may ultimately make the disabled person feel worse with the prosthesis than without it. With these problems in mind, the Atom Touch was created, i.e. the world’s first such advanced hand prosthesis, which will be tested in the second quarter of this year and will be sold in a fully-fledged version next year.

The operation of Atom Touch includes both the prostheses themselves and the belts that secure them on the body, which complement the devices the company calls “cuffs”. Part of them is an integrated brain-computer interface that detects signals from the user’s body – including the vestigial limb – to control it.

The price remains unknown, but it is certain that it will not be low, although it will be “much cheaper than leading prostheses”. The key is that the Atom Touch will be available for use by anyone who has lost an arm. It will provide the dexterity, range of motion and strength characteristic of humans, and above all, it will restore their basic sense of touch and will be comfortable throughout the day of use.
