TON will publish the code required to run a node on September 1

Telegram Open Network, or TON, the ambitious blockchain project announced last year by the messaging application Telegram, will publish the code required to run a node on September 1. The information was published by the Russian press, citing two people familiar with the project.

One of the sources is affiliated with TON Labs, a start-up founded by investors in the GRAM token.

Telegram kept the secret around the TON project, refusing to provide public information. Apparently, TON Labs, which was founded to build tools for developers, has no such inhibitions. TON Labs claims that it regularly communicates with Telegram’s developer team.

The test network will be launched on October 31

According to the Russian publication Vedomosty, the code and instructions needed to implement a node in the TON network will be published on September 1st.

To date, there has been only one operational node – led by Telegram itself – in the TON testing network. With the release of the code, a wider range of users will be able to run their own nodes. Users can only run nodes on the testnet. The network is expected to be publicly released on October 31, in accordance with the 2018 purchase agreement for the sale of the GRAM token.

Telegram has raised $ 1.7 billion from investors in the ICO in 2018. If TON is not launched by the end of October, Telegram will have to return investor funds.

Initially, the network was planned to be launched in December 2018, but it experienced significant delays. For this reason, some investors have begun to sell the rights to their future tokens, forming an unofficial secondary market for GRAM. From a technical point of view, this is a violation of the Telegram investor agreement, which strictly prohibited the secondary transactions before launching.
