The big moment has come and Huawei has not been found unprepared. After the arrival of Mate 30 Pro, which initially saw some limitations in terms of distribution, for the Chinese company the time has come to launch with great pomp what in some ways is the first true top of the range smartphone without services Google to arrive on the market, as it was designed and built following the ban suffered by the United States of America.
That of 26 March 2020 was therefore an even more important presentation than usual for Huawei, called a a test of strength not insignificant. We tell you right away that Chinese society seems to be more motivated than ever. Let's go to see in detail what Huawei's proposals are.
Huawei P40 Pro, focuses on the photographic sector
The most intriguing smartphone in the family is probably the P40 Pro. The Chinese company wanted to focus heavily on the photographic sector, which includes a quadruple rear camera 50MP (f / 1.9, 23mm, OIS) + 40MP (f / 1.9, 18mm, ultra wide angle) + 12MP (f / 3.4, 125mm, telephoto, 5x optical zoom, periscope lens, OIS + EIS) + 3D ToF sensor. These are Leica lenses, capable, at least on paper, of offering possibilities that have hardly been seen before in the smartphone field. To give you concrete examples, the ToF sensor is used to "scan" real objects and reconstruct 3D models, which can then be inserted at will into photos and videos.
There is also no lack of artificial intelligence features. For example, through the one called "Golden Snap" you can remove the reflections from the surfaces, the passers-by from one click or capture the most significant moments of a sporting action or a dynamic context.
This occurs thanks to the recognition by the AI of 97 points on the face and 31 on the human body. Interesting is the presence of a microphone dedicated to the "Audio Zoom" functionality, which "scales" the audio together with the video. There is also Slow Motion at 7680 fps. The dual front camera, on the other hand, has a 32MP main sensor, flanked by a lens that is exploited for the depth of field and for HDR +.
Furthermore, do not underestimate the 6.58-inch FullView OLED display with Full HD + resolution (2640 x 1200 pixels) and 90 Hz refresh rate, which has curved edges and reduced to the bone (1.71 mm at the sides, 2.65 mm at the top and 3.35 mm at the bottom) and implements Huawei technology Acoustic Display. This means that sound is emitted directly from the screen, ensuring a higher level of privacy, for example, during calls.
Do not miss the in-display fingerprint sensor, larger (+ 30%), faster and moved slightly upwards, in a position that the Chinese company considers more comfortable.
As for the components under the body, we find a Kirin 990 5G octa-core processor operating at a maximum frequency of 2.86 GHz and 7nm production process, flanked by 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory (expandable via NanoSD card, Huawei's proprietary standard, up to 256GB). There is also Dual SIM (one nanoSIM 5G slot + another for nanoSIM 4G or NanoSD) and support for eSIM. The battery is 4200 mAh with 40W charging support, both wired and wireless (there is also wireless reverse charging). A high-caliber configuration, just what is expected from a top of the 2020 range of the Chinese company.
Moving on to the connectivity department, the latter is very complete, from support to 5G NSA / SA to Wi-Fi 6 up to 2.4 Gbps, passing through Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and the USB Type-C 3.1 port . Therefore, there is also the Desktop Wireless mode via Wi-Fi Direct.
For the rest, the IP68 certification is present and the operating system is Android 10 with EMUI 10.1. Note the fact that USB Type-C headphones will also be included in the package. Huawei P40, the "basic" variant
Alongside the Pro model, Huawei has also unveiled the "basic" P40 variant. The latter differs from the "big brother" mainly because of the screen, the internal memory, the photographic sector and the battery. In fact, the Huawei P40 data sheet includes a 6.1-inch OLED screen with Full HD + resolution (2340 x 1200 pixels) and a screen-to-body ratio lower than that of the P40 Pro, 128GB of internal memory (expandable via NanoSD up to at 256GB), a triple 50MP camera (f / 1.9, 23mm, OIS) + 16MP (f / 2.2, 17mm, ultra wide angle) + 8MP (f / 2.4, 80mm, telephoto, 3x optical zoom, OIS) and a battery from 3800 mAh with 22.5 W charging support. Huawei P40 is IP53 certified.
There is no shortage of features related to 3D models and the artificial intelligence of the photographic sector. There is also support for 5G, but only Google services are missing (there are HMS). Huawei P40 is sold to 799.90 euros (8 / 128GB). Pre-orders start today March 26, 2020.
Huawei P40 Pro +, the cutting edge
Huawei has also announced an "ultra top" variant called the P40 Pro +. The latter has a ceramic backcover and will come only in black and white colors. The main differences with P40 Pro, in addition to materials, are to be found in the photographic sector. The latter is described by Huawei as the "most complex camera system ever" and is made up of 50MP (f / 1.9, 23mm, OIS) + 40MP (f / 1.8, 18mm, ultra wide angle) + 8MP sensors. (f / 4.4, 240 mm, periscope optics, telephoto, OIS, 10x optical zoom) + 8MP (f / 2.4, 80 mm, OIS, 3x optical zoom) + ToF sensor.
