Transport drones instead of military planes. British aviation has already checked this

In the military, drones are wonderful devices through and through, and it seems that they will find application not only in frontline operations, but also in transport. At least, that’s what follows from the announcement that the 700X Naval Aviation Squadron has completed extensive testing of heavy drones at RNAS Culdrose in the UK to determine their suitability for supplying aircraft carriers and other frontline naval operations.

The British checked whether transport drones made sense at the front instead of military planes

The very use of drones in transport is not surprising, so these tests were designed to answer the question of whether the commercial drones already available are able to cope with this task, or whether military versions need to be built on a special order. Hence, last year’s cooperation of the aforementioned squadron with private companies, which promised so well that on their basis, the Heavy Lift Challenge project was organized for this year.

Malloy and Windracers have signed a £ 300,000 development contract for the project. The former provided access to the Malloy T-600 quadcopter with a 250 kg payload, and the latter a fixed wing Ultra drone that can carry 100 kg over long distances.

The goal was to test how well these drones can transport supplies including humanitarian supplies, first aid, ammunition and spare parts to the frontline for disaster relief or combat operations. They are also supposed to act as a direct drop of supplies to ships, and therefore, for the purposes of these tests, an imitation of an aircraft carrier deck was developed, with the use of which both drones were tested in practice.

Conclusions? A revolution at your fingertips, because according to the commentators participating in the project, this one exceeds their wildest expectations.
