We know when the Seawind 6-126 offshore wind turbines will start operating

Seawind Ocean Technology, based in Amsterdam, has developed its world-unique Seawind 6-126 two-blade offshore wind turbines, which are distinguished by the fact that they have not four, but two blades positioned opposite to each other. Today we learned that the global company Petrofac, involved in the design, construction and operation of energy facilities, is interested in them, and will benefit from the work of Seawind.

Seawind 6-126 twin-blade wind turbines

Let’s start with the fact that nothing is certain at the moment, but in the end the project should be turned into reality anyway. Currently, Petrofac has only a Memorandum of Understanding with Seawind on the use of twin-bladed floating wind turbines, which in practice face offshore wind on their concrete structure. Apparently, they are suitable for installation in all marine conditions, including in areas endangered by cyclones and in very deep waters.

What can Seawind 6-126 boast of? Primarily with 6.2-megawatt rated power, withstands winds up to 70 m / s, gusts up to 90 m / s, and operating at wind speeds of 3.5 to 25 m / s. Their rotors have a diameter of 126 meters, and at rated power, these rotate at a speed of 20.8 RPM. The turbine will last up to 50 years, and a number of clever engineering solutions ensure its condition and resistance to loads.

Under the agreement, Petrofac will initially support the system design verification and then provide engineering, procurement and construction management services for the first demonstrator. We know that the Seawind 6-126 wind turbine will be deployed in European waters by the first quarter of 2024.
