Hackers attacked Vestas. It is a producer of the largest wind turbines

Vestas is currently a giant in the field of wind turbine production, as confirmed by the V236-15.0MW model, which holds the title of the largest offshore wind turbine in the world. However, this particular company has not been too easy recently after hackers attacked its infrastructure.

Vestas victim of a hacking attack. The operation of the turbines remained undisturbed, systems needed to be restored, but internal data was leaked

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas fell victim to a ransomware attack on November 19, which significantly paralyzed its operations. Fortunately, the company is slowly returning to normal as it has just announced that almost all of its systems are now online. However, the entire attack affected the infrastructure and led to company data leaks. This is hardly surprising, because it involved malware designed to encrypt files and thus prevent their use, which paralyzes, among others, systems that suddenly do not have access to the data they have been working on.

We have gone through a few difficult days since we detected a cyber incident. The executive management and board of directors are very pleased that the incident did not affect the operation of the wind turbines and almost all of our IT systems are up and running again. There is still a lot of work ahead of us and we must be extremely diligent in the face of cyber threats.

Said Henrik Andersen, Vestas President and CEO.

According to Vestas, “there are no indications that the event has affected customer operations and the supply chain, which is supported by a forensic investigation with the assistance of external experts.” The data appears to relate primarily to Vestas’ internal affairs, but the extent to which the data has been breached is still under investigation.
