Windows 10, postponed the end of the support of the version 1709 for the Coronavirus

Microsoft has postponed the end date of the service for Windows 10 1709 to the October 13, 2020. The delay due to the pandemic COVID-19 (new coronavirus) now widespread all over the world and expected for editions Enterprise, Education is IoT Enterprise. Windows 10 1709 (also known as Fall Creators Update) was expected to reach the end of the service on April 14, 2020, according to the Windows lifecycle information sheet.

By virtue of the change in plans Microsoft explained: "This means that the devices will only receive monthly security updates from May to October. The final security update for Windows 10, version 1709, will be released on October 13 2020 instead of April 14 2020 ". In the post Microsoft also explained the reasons, that is to have" assessed the situation in public health and the impact in the consumers "before making the choice.

"To relieve users of one of the many concerns they face, Microsoft will delay the scheduled service end date for the Enterprise, Education and IoT Enterprise editions of Windows 10, version 1709," reads the post. Until I reach the new end of service date, Windows 10 1709 will normally receive security updates through the usual channels: Windows Update, Windows Server Update Services and Microsoft Update Catalog.

Therefore, you will not need to change your configurations in the update management as all versions of Microsoft Configuration Manager will support Windows 10 1709 by normally distributing all packages until October 13, 2020, except for any new extensions.

Windows 10 1709 is not the only Microsoft product whose support ends in 2020: we have Office 2010, Visual Studio 2010, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 (including 2008 R2) and multiple versions of Windows 10 including 1709, 1803 and 1903. After support ends, Microsoft stops releasing any type of patch, including those critical to security and stability, as well as technical support. When support for a product expires, all of its users are urged by Microsoft to update as soon as possible to stay safe from external problems or attacks.

A complete list of end of support deadlines and related migration information for Microsoft products is available at this address on the official Microsoft website.
