Windows or Linux – which one to choose? Is Linux so scary?

Today, a huge number of operating systems (OS) are available for personal computer users. But over 90% use Windows. Windows comes preinstalled on almost all commercially available computers. And almost no one thinks about which operating system to use.

Some of those who know about Linux think that it is almost impossible to use it. Allegedly, there are no drivers and programs for it, they think that Linux is very complex and is basically a command line … Is this really so?

Linux is an open source, free operating system, the kernel of which is developed by the Finnish programmer hacker Linus Torvalds. Part of this OS is the GNU Project (read “GNU”). Linux is often referred to as GNU / Linux.

Windows is commercialized by Microsoft. It is very popular, most of the software is written for it, all new devices that come out for a computer have drivers for Windows. And it is quite easy to use it, because in this OS everything is done in a graphical form, so that it is easy to master it. But the fear of Linux is unfounded. Linux actually supports quite a bit of hardware. Not as big as Windows, but pretty much anything you can buy in stores right now. Separate drivers for Linux devices are written either by hardware companies or by individual enthusiasts.

There are many more programs for Linux than many people think. You can find alternatives to almost any Windows program in Linux. At the same time, in some Linux distributions, a huge amount of software is already installed, sometimes the user does not need to look for something else.

One of the great advantages Linux has over Windows is that it is free and open source. Linux is free to purchase from the installation. In addition, almost all programs for it are also free. So it’s perfect for those who can’t afford to spend £ 5,000 on Windows and £ 12,000 on Office. Using Windows, you will have to spend another xxxxx rubles on all the other utilities that you may need.

In addition, Linux is less demanding on computer resources, runs faster and more stable. This applies even to the newest distributions.

As you can see, GNU / Linux is not as scary as it might seem. Yes, it’s a little more complex than Windows. Yes, not many drivers are written for it. There are problems with games – not many of them can be run on Linux. But if you are not afraid of new things and are ready to spend a little time mastering it, you may be interested in Linux. It is a great operating system that you can have a lot of fun with. On the Internet there is just a huge number of articles, materials, books devoted to Linux, you can start mastering it with them. Plus, Linux and Windows can be easily used together on the same computer. Experiment!
