MOSCOW, 21 Sep — PRIME. Ukrainian troops fired again at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant at night and damaged the equipment of one of the power units, the press service of the Energodar administration said.
“The high-voltage power line was damaged. The communication equipment of one of the power units was also damaged,” the message says.
It is specified that the explosions of shells occurred a hundred meters from the perimeter of the station. The loss of power led to a temporary shutdown of the block transformer and the auxiliary transformer of the power unit.
According to the information, no one was injured as a result of the attack, and work is underway to eliminate the consequences of the shelling.
Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity. Since March, it has been under the control of the Russian military. The Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to regularly shell Energodar, the surrounding villages and the territory of the station adjacent to the city.
In September, the IAEA mission visited ZNPP. The organization’s director general, Rafael Grossi, called for an immediate cessation of all shelling and proposed the creation of a protective zone around the facility.
