Sit back, imagine your 14nm chip under monstrous cooling, and acknowledge that Intel’s 10nm Ice Lake processors have suffered another lag.
Initially, we thought Intel was moving the launch of 10nm desktop processors to the second half of 2019, but these were overly optimistic speculations. Now it has turned out that these Ice Lake chips will certainly not make their debut next year. This means that we will have a huge advantage for several months on the side of AMD, which plans to launch already 7nm consumer Ryzenes. 7nm! This is at least indicated by the latest roadmap, which compares the plans from March and May this year.
It shows that in 2019, instead of the Ice Lake processors announced for several years, we will receive … refreshment of the current Coffee Lake. This is at least indicated by the letter “R” at the end of the name, which clearly defines the plans both in the consumer and server segment. At this point, and after so many delays, it is difficult for us to even acknowledge that the “real” 10nm (current energy-saving mobile systems are not the best sample) made by Intel will be admired, for example, in 2020.
