A house printed in 3D with the help of mud? Why not!

The Italian company WASP (World’s Advanced Saving Project) has been trying to distinguish itself in the field of three-dimensional printing technology for a long time. This time, its representatives boast of a design that uses mud and straw to print houses. Attention is drawn to the low cost of such an undertaking.

Italians even shared the exact proportions that are used to build cheap houses in no time. The Gaja mix consists of 40% straw, 25% soil collected from the construction site, 25% rice husks and 10% lime. The material obtained in this way can be used to erect walls. The roof is wooden while the foundations are made of 3D-printed concrete.

WASP built the house using the same printer as with previous projects. The process involved extrusion of a mixture called Gaja in layers to place the next pieces. The cottage also has a window and its interior is 20 square meters. Thanks to the wood and clay finish, the building looks neat and pleasant. In addition, the authors of the project ensure that the hut is well insulated, therefore it will work well in both low and high temperatures.

The construction of the house took 10 days, and the total cost of materials is less than PLN 4,000. Of course, this price does not include additional elements that can be found in most households and labor costs. It must be admitted, however, that the idea is very interesting, as is the end result.
